When darkness falls, the hippo goes out of water and walks on the prairie in search for food. It only eats herbs, but in large quantities, because it's an herbivorous animal. There are two species in the hippopotamus family, the great common hippopotamus and the Pygmy Hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis). This last one is a nocturnal animal.
