I have had both hamsters and gerbils, and I personally think hamsters make better pets if you want a pet that will interact with you. Although gerbils are awake during the day, and hamsters are not, I was an animal lover when I was younger and played with my hamsters during the day until they were used to it. Gerbils are very fast and hard to handle, where hamsters will cuddle and sometimes fall asleep in your hands. Gerbils tend to bite more, because they do not like to be held as much. When I was younger I would take my gerbils out and they would jump out of my hands and I would have to go and catch them. Also, my gerbils would bite and bite and bite and bite until I put them down. I have a hamster right now that likes to sleep in the pocket of my pajama shirt, and I had one that just died who was THE SWEETEST PET I ever had, she never bite ANYONE, not once! She was handled by small children who were not nice to her and dropped her and she still NEVER bit. Of course, it's best to only let a kid hold the hamster or gerbil if they know what they are doing because they can really get hurt if dropped. Gerbils jump really high and far, so they are DEFINITELY not good for young children to hold. I would say that hamsters are probably better pets if you want to handle them. If they are just to look at, gerbils are very fun to watch. But for a 10 year old, which I would assume wants to hold and interact with their pet, I think a hamster would be the way to go.
a guinea pig they are more fun to play with for this age and live longer
It depends whats shes in too but at ten i always wanted a hamster
A dwarf hamster may be a better choice for a 13-year-old due to their smaller size and lower maintenance requirements compared to guinea pigs. Dwarf hamsters are also more independent and may be easier for a young teenager to care for. However, both animals can make great pets with proper care and attention.
Both pets are nice choices for a 12 year old. I would probably choose a hamster because they are usually more hyper and active but more likely to bite. With a guinea pig, a bit less responsibility and patience is involved making it easier to care for.
I have a girl hamster and it is really active and loud at night. If you could sleep hearing their wheel or them biting on there cage at night a hamster is a okay animal for you. At night i take out the wheel but she will bite the Cage, on the other side a guinea pig you have to be ready to get grooming because they have long hair also some hamsters do to. Hamsters are easier to take care of. And they like to play in your hand. DON'T FORGET THEY BITE ! So i think a hamster should be better for a 10 year old because they can take care of them easier. they won't be as ruff with them as a 7-year-old will.
yes and no cause the hamster could bit u
To be honest i like guinea pigs more they live up to 8-12 guinea pigs won't try to run AWAY every time they have a chance but to say both i won't recomand for a 3 year old child You: WHY?!?! ME: hamsters, guinea pigs every small pet needs to be hold properly and not tortured by young example Squeeze or throw the pet ME: it's better getting a dog the child won't have strengh to push it or anything but it's better getting a dog not a puppy for 3 year old!
A hamster is better because if you get a guinea pig you will soon get bored of it and not look after it properly as they are quite hard work. You need to bath them, clean their hutch out, get their nails clipped, buy them a run and they eat a lot more, A hamsters is a lot better, you only need to clean it out once a week and that only takes about ten minutes. It can live on just dry food where as guinea pigs need greens too and they are really sweet cuddly;y pets that you will never get bored of.
a guinea pig or a rabbit or even a hamster are easy and not very expensive to care for
It depends on your preference. Hamsters usually live to be 2 to 3 years old. Guinea pigs can live to be 8 to 10 years old. Guineas pigs are better to cuddle with. However, their litter needs to be spot cleaned every 2nd day.
Absolutely! Guinea pigs are gentle and loves to be petted. They are a very low maintenance to take care of. Just get a good crate and a good bedding. They should provide your 12 year old child plenty of fun with their guinea pigs.
Hamster, guinea pig, frog, lizard, .....
