As a mammal hippopotamus is not descended from dinosaurs but it did have ancestors in the dinosaur time. All organisms on earth have ancestors dating to the time of the dinosaurs and from before then. Otherwise they could not exist today.

According to current theory:

65 million years ago, when the dinosaurs ended, hippopotamuses and whales were the same animal.

About 55 million years ago the animal that would become hippos split from the animal that would become whales.

We have found fossils of a 48 million year old whale ancestor that we call Indohyus. Artistic reconstructions of this animal are currently the closest idea we have for what hippos looked like in the time of dinosaurs.
