Well, dwarf hamsters may wake up at different times. Sometimes my dwarf hamster wakes up to eat or go to the bathroom. If they here a noise they might wake up wondering what it was for a while. It all depends, but normally a hamster is a wake at night. They are nocturnal creatures. They will be most active at dawn and dusk.
You shouldn't leave them in the ball for to long as their feet will start to hurt them. ! :) I leave mine in for 5mins in the morning 15min at dinner and 5mins at night... My hamster has been alive for 3 and a half years but unfortunately died on 18 September 2009 :'( !

There could be various reasons for a sudden death in a young dwarf hamster, such as a respiratory infection, internal injury, heat stroke, or other health issues. It's important to consult a veterinarian experienced in small animal care to determine the exact cause of death and provide closure.
Perhaps the hamster is asleep.
Probably at night.
Night, when they are both awake.
