Yes, it is normal. Because the dog is having it's periods whilst being pregnant, when eggs come out that haven't been filled by sperm. Our dog had periods recently, but she wasn't pregnant. Don't worry, it's completely normal and healthy.

Bleeding during canine pregnancy is not good sign. It can be due to miscarriage. Spontaneous abortion in dogs can be due to Infectious Diseases, Pyometra, cancer, Trauma, Uterine defects, fetal abnormalities, hormonal imbalance, side effects of some medicines, and dystocia.

Signs of miscarriage in dogs are absence of delivery on times, decrease in abdominal size, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, depression, fever, dehydration and vaginal discharge which can be bloody or containing pus.

So, whenever your dog has any discharge during pregnancy other than at the time of labor, is not good sign. You should contact vet immediately.
