Is the Perro de Presa Canario a good breed for inexperienced dog owners to own?

They are not perfect first time dogs,but if you do a lot of research BEFORE you take the puppy Home and fully commit to his training everything will be fine.They are great dogs but need a very firm hand in raising (dont hit him but show him that you are the boss) and a ton of socialisation with other dogs and humans. They are not for everyone and they can be the best dogs Ever but they can also be your worst nightmare.Think wisely and good luck

The Appenzeller Sennenhund is not recommended for first time dog owners. Although they are loyal and devoted companions, this breed is not solely a pet. Appenzell's are first and foremost a working breed. They are hardy, courageous, and affectionate. They are highly protective of their family, home, and territory. The Appenzeller Sennenhund does best with considerate children. They do well with other dogs and household pets they have been raised with. The Appenzell does not do well if they are isolated or ignored. They will become destructive if they are bored or lonely. They have a tendency to bark incessantly.

Eurasiers are intelligent, quick to learn, and generally keen to please their owners. This makes them quite easy and rewarding to train. However, like most Spitz breeds, they do have a degree of independence, and this may manifest itself as appearing to 'go deaf' at times when they are doing something which they consider to be more interesting than what YOU want them to do! Again, this varies from dog to dog; some Eurasiers do well at Obedience and Heelwork to Music, while many enjoy Agility. Generally, though, Eurasiers don't like doing exercises which are very repetitive, and this needs to be taken into account in training. Calm and consistent training is the key to success with Eurasiers; nothing is achieved by being harsh. Therefore, this may not be the best breed for owners with very little experience with dogs, as they do need a firm and dedicated owner.

Presas have a strong personality and are dominant animals that need early socialization and obedience training. In some cases the Presa can be aggressive toward other dogs and suspicious of strangers.

Due to the Presa Canario's personality it can be a challenge to train. They require a firm owner who is willing and has the ability to meet the challenges in a young, dominant puppy.
