The color is basically muddy grey. The main differences between the white and black rhino is that the black rhino is a bit smaller and has pointed lips.

It is fairly certain that the White Rhino became called so through misunderstanding its name in Afrikaans. In Afrikaans "wide" (referring to its wide, flat mouth) sounds fairly similar to "white", so in English it became the white rhino. Whether the other rhino is actually darker, or got called "black" just because of symmetry reasons, no noe really knows.
