I keep a spray bottle of vinegar water (50/50) on hand. First I blot up the accident, then spray with the vinegar water, then blot that up. Repeat if needed. You can sprinkle with baking soda afterwards to soak up remaining moisture, then sweep. I have read some suggestions to sprinkle with baking soda prior to spraying with the vinegar water, however this could be abrasive on your floor. The vinegar smell at first is strong, but it neutralizes the urine. I love Murphy's Oil Soap for wood and it has a nice clean smell, so if you follow-up with a mopping of Murphy's Oil Soap your room should smell fresh and clean.
Personally, my favorite cleaning product for hardwood floors is Pinesol. It cleans well and has a good smell that lasts. There are also several different types of products made just for hardwood floors. Whatever you decide to use, read the label and it should tell you if it is safe to use on hardwood floors or not.
Hickory wood floors are just that, regular floor. They don't have the odor of the wood used in grilling. The name just refers to the kind of wood used to make the flooring. You don't need to worry.
Your best bet is to open the windows and increase the air circulation. Often fans will help too...as long as the floors are sufficiently dry. With both of these, you need to wait at least 24 hrs, or else you may cause dust or pollen to settle in your floors.
It depends on what type of new flooring smell you are referring to. If you have recently installed 1 piece floors, or glue placed flooring then the answer is airation. If you are talking about recently refinished wood flooring then the only answer is time. I recently refinished hardwood floors in one room. It took about 2 weeks with the window open and the fan on circulating air to completely remove the smell.
To remove dog fecal smells out of hardwood floors it is best to steam clean the floors with an apple cider vinegar solution of half vinegar and half water. Repeat if the smell does not leave the floor the first time.
To remove pet urine from hardwood floors, blot up as much of the fresh urine as possible using paper towels, then clean the area with a mixture of water and vinegar. Follow up with an enzymatic pet stain remover to break down any remaining odor-causing components in the urine. Allow the area to dry completely.
It depends on how much air you get through the house. Generally it's a week or two but if the house is well sealed up it might take longer.
I hope you get a better answer on this, but I firmly believe you can't. The only reasonable solution is to remove the floor where the skunk has sprayed. It might help a bit if you use a UV light (Skunk spray is fluorescent in UV) to see the spray location. Good luck. YES! My mom's dog was visiting, and literally was sniffing the skunk when she got a full spray in the face. She then proceeded to come into my house dripping in skunk. It then dripped all over my floors which are all hardwood. I immediately goggled skunk hardwood floors, and it was not encouraging. However in a blog I found this product. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it worked! No more smell. http://www.biocidesystems.com/roomshocker1.html
my feet smell like cheese
Yes! Zicam Cold Remedy can damage the sense of smell of the user. It is important for anyone who is going to take a medication to research it first and make sure you are able to accept the consequences.
The orange products use the citrus oils from the peels of oranges. The citrus oils smell nice, leave a great shine and act as a verry effective solvent for the dirt & oils that foul your floors. So they clean, leave a nice gloss & smell good. Wood floors like water, but that is very bad for your floor. Wood also likes oils, which in small quantity is not as bad for your floor. They are not magic but they are better than anything with water in it! No Murphys oil soap or Shark Steamers on wood PLEASE.
It is cheaper than hardwood furniture and some bugs dislike the smell so will be repelled away.
