Echidnas, being warm-blooded, maintain their own body temperature and do not require external conditions such as direct sunlight in order to keep warm. They maintain their body temperature via their thick fur which covers their bodies (out of which hundreds of sharp spines grow); they also maintain it by burrowing into the ground, which acts as insulation for them.
