my 14 1/2 year old golden retriever had a seizure a few weeks ago.
i was lucky enough to be in the same room when it happened because his whole body shook violently for what felt like 10 minutes and he emptied his bowels and bladder.
he recovered but he started walking into things.
i got him to the vet within the hour and vet told me he had gone blind.
she explained there could be many causes and one of them could be a brain tumor.
my dog was deteriorating for about the past 18 months from super stiff back legs but was otherwise healthy and happy.
however a few weeks before the seizure i awoke to found him covered in his own urine and feces. i suspect he had been having seizures every few weeks since the summer began.
but i believe they were always in the middle of the night or were very minor seizures.
i am glad i was taken by surprise by the final seizure because i instructed the vet to euthanize him without delay.
i am a vegan and my dog was aging very badly at about 10 so I switched him off of dog food (i used organic senior plan stuff) and fed him 90% organic grains, vegetables, beans, hummus, etc. plus some animal foods.
within a week his Arthritis improved so much i was in shock.
it stayed like that until he was almost 13 so i think diet is 90% of the battle but whenever i mention a vegan diet for a dog to a vet it never goes well.
anyway i saw this post so all i can recommend from my own non-professional and unscientific experience is to feed the dog alot of organic brown rice with vegetables and organic meat/fish (alot of rice/ much less veggies and flesh).
massage helps.
and personally i would see how that helps ...
my feeling is that most vets love animals but that western medicine is a long slow road to heartbreak.
i actually had my dog on a macrobiotic diet for humans and that info can be googled. he loved seaweed by the way.
i also gave my dog cetyl-m joint supplement the last year and 1/2 of his life (about 5 - 15 tablets a day) and that seemed to help a lot.
but alas... western medicine has not even begun to grasp the potential of rejuvenative medicine except for some stem cell stuff that does not seem ready for prime time.
that is all i can share and i hope your dog lives forever.
