Ask your vet about that. Cats are different and there are different answers and reasons. One of my vets told me that male cats need wet food to prevent urinary tract infections. They've got tiny urethras that can become stopped up completely with an infection, so they need the extra water in their diet. Of course, my other vet says that now the tooth decay that can result from wet food is considered a bigger threat. I have no clue who is right, so now I use both wet and dry to try and get the best of both.
