Afraid? Not really. It's rare for a wolf to be near a human, and even rarer for it to attack unprovoked. Now, if you live in southern Alaska, then yes, you should be because the wolf packs there have started attacking people and dogs.
Wary? Yes. Wolves may try to avoid people, but if by some chance you sneak up on one, you might surprise them enough for them to attack, or if you get to close to a den area, or chance up with a starving/diseased one, they will attack. And it's not unheard of for wolves chasing caribou to start a stampede that can trample you.
So while you shouldn't be scared, you should still be on the lookout and try to avoid confrontations.
