You didn't mention what breed of dog you have. If you have a toy breed then 13 lbs. may be over-weight and the weight has to come down! Exercise is essential when even humans have Diabetes. A couple of short walks per day for your pet (if the weather isn't too hot or too cold) is good for your pet. If weather doesn't permit then 'play time' is a must ... throwing the ball. Get your pet a little more active. It's important to see the amount of water your pet is drinking and if they are eating well after insulin is given. If your pet's appetite is off steam some chicken (all fat removed) and chop it up fine with a bit of steamed rice and no salt or condiments added. Have this on hand in case your pet decides they don't want to eat. Please take your pet into the vet and have them check out your pets thyroid and also the insulin dose may have to be adjusted. If you live where it's hot or the temp is hot in your home the dog may simply be too hot. Dogs pants or perspire from the pads of their feet when running fevers or are too hot. Your dog may be dehydrated. Pay attention to their habits of drinking water.
