One 500 mg pill is unlikely to seriously impact your dog's health -- dosage is established by age, breed, and weight. Check with your Vet, first. It works on dogs as with humans.

Just as there are people that are allergic, dogs can similarly be allergic. If your dog presents any signs of shock, it's beyond your intervention, get him/her to a Vet immediately.

Side effects: excessive gas, digestion problems, (including diarrhea, development of fungi, and shock).

Keep in mind that any antibiotic is only effective for bacterial (not viral infection, the dog should be dosed as prescribed -- roughly the same time(s) daily, and give him/her the entire (7-10 day) regimen.
