The smallest breed of Dog recognised by the Kennel Club is the Chihuahua, at only 4-6lbs. There are several other breeds which average a similar size, including the Affenpinscher, Papillon, Phalene, Yorkshire Terrier and Griffon Bruxellois.

The smallest dog ever recorded was Pinocchio, a Yorkshire Terrier born on March 6, 2002. Full grown she stood only 2 3/4 an inch at her shoulder and weighed just 16 oz. She was only 8 inches long from head to tail. Sadly Pinocchio died June 1st, 2006 from overeating.
