The brumby is the Australian wild horse. They are not true wild horses but ferals descended from settlers' horses (and those that came later) that escaped or were freed. There is no set type in the breed; their characteristics vary depending on where they live and which breeds they were descended from. They are all, however, tough, intelligent and spirited. Many outstanding Australian Stock Horse bloodlines contain a large proportion of brumby blood.

Brumbies are a wild breed in Australia. They were origiginally horses bought over from England that had been tamed but ran away or got lost and eventually formed a herd and became wild. From this brumbies became quite a common thing. However they were considered a pest and were often gone after and shot or rounded up and sold on. There numbers are now dwindling. However they are great horses as they are toguh and strong and have hardy and good temperaments.
