To train any dog as a pet, love it, feed it and teach it proper behavior. A pit bull is not inherently mean. Dogs have to be taught to be aggressive and mean.

There are different obedience methods for training your pitbull. The most famous one is called clicker training. There are other methods such as the lure and reward as well.

I would take the dog to as many obedience classes as you can afford. They teach you how to the train the dog, and also socialise the dog so that it knows how to act around other dogs.
