Do you have to be a certain weight or height to ride a camel?

There are typically no strict height or weight restrictions to ride a camel, but riders should be of a size that allows them to comfortably mount and balance on the animal. Most camel operators recommend that riders be in good health and able to climb onto the camel without assistance. It's always best to check with the specific tour operator for any guidelines they may have.

What is a camel size and weight?

A fully-grown adult camel stands 1.85m/6 feet at the shoulder and 2.15m/7 feet at the hump. A fully-grown camel can weigh up to 700kg/1542lbs. A camel's long, thin legs have powerful muscles which allow the animal to carry loads over long distances. A camel can carry as much as 450kg/990lbs, but a usual and more comfortable cargo weight is 150kgs/330lbs. It is usual for a camel to work as a beast of burden for only six to eight months of the year; the remainder of the time it needs to rest and recuperate.

What is the hoof of the camel adapted for?

The hoof of a camel is adapted for walking on hot sand and rough terrain. The broad, flat shape of the hoof helps distribute the camel's weight evenly, preventing it from sinking into the sand or slipping on rocky surfaces. Additionally, the hard outer layer protects the soft inner tissues from injury.

How much do camels weigh?

I would estimate a full grown Camel would weigh 1500lbs to 3000lbs. This is based on: -camels can be 6x the weight of a llama (wiki) and llamas can weigh 280lbs to 450lbs (wiki). So that would mean 1680lbs to 2700lbs. -camels supposedly can drink 20 to 50 gallons at one time. And they can withstand at least 20 to 25% weight loss due to sweating. (wiki) So if the above were true that would mean 20 to 50 gallons of water equals 20% to 25% of a camels weight. Since water weight is about 8.3lbs a gallon. That would be 332lbs to 2085lbs. -Additionally a horse of similar height to a camel could be very roughly 1000lbs to 3000lbs according to my horse riding friend. Disclaimer: I haven't had any experience with camels and I would imagine it would be hard to get a specific weight estimation due to how much of their weight could just be water weight.
