What Parasite is only found in Pit Bulls?

I don't think that there is a parasite only found in pit bulls. A Pit bull is a dog, a specific type yes, different species... No. However, there is a rare parasite that can be found in pit bulls or other dogs that have been used for fighting. It is transmitted through a dog bite (or passed on at birth) and can remain dormant in the dog for years. Unfortunately I can't locate its name. It is not common by any means -- a friend's dog was checked for this by the Animal Medical Center in N.Y. when they exhausted all other channels as to why this dog's white blood cell count was crashing.
