Cheetahs are smaller than lions, leopards, and hyenas, and can easily be killed by them if cornered. Cheetah cubs are a target for virtually any predator of significant size in their habitat, and they are completely vulnerable, on top of the fact that even a mother cheetah would be lucky to be able to defend them. They also have poor genetics because of a period where they had a lot of inbreeding.
