Food, fibre and work. Cattle and horses can be used for work. Cattle, poultry, pigs, sheep and goats are raised for their meat. Dairy cattle are raised for milk and chickens for eggs. Llamas, alpacas, sheep and a few breeds of goats are raised for their wool or hair.

It depends on the type of goats that we are discussing... but on our farm we have dairy and pygmy.... the pygmy's are used for pets... you can use them for meat but I have never done that.. they can be housed trained just like a dog... which I have done with great success...... the dairy goats we milk, make cheese, and soap from the milk also ice cream and butter.... and anything else you use milk for .. we also raise other animals intended for meat .. like pigs and calves using the milk...... we sell the buck for meat and pets .. we also eat them. ( the meat is called Chevon or Spanish is Cabrito) . .. and the does we use for replacements for our herd and to help other people start their herds... we take goats to local places to show how smart they are and tell about them.... and we have a wether ( fixed buck ) that is being trained to pull a cart and he walks in parades to inform people of the wonderful uses of Caprines ( another name for goats)
