The coughing reflex is initiated in an attempt by the body to use air in the lungs expel the source and products of infections in the Lungs and tends to close of the nasal passage while it is taking place. The sneeze on the other hand does the same thing only in this case the idea is to clear the nasal passages of sources of infection and their product Flem etc. when a sneeze happens the airway configures in such a way as to cause as much air as possible to pass through the nasal passage and out through the nose.
