Hyenas are top predators in the food chain. They've even been known to eat other top predators, including lionesses. Similarly, other predators do not eat hyenas with the exception of lions and wild dogs.

Hyenas are considered a keystone species which means a specie that make a profound on the habitat and ecosystems where they live. In other words, predation is not the only role that hyenas serve; without their presence, the food chain and local ecosystems would be negatively impacted.
