They are browsers, not grazers, and thus can live in such forests since they eat willows and other browse found in coniferous forests. Their long legs are great for stepping over deadfall, hooves for traveling the softer edges of peat bogs when other animals may get stuck or sink and disappear forever. Their long legs also allow them to run from predators like wolves and not be hampered by brush and such.
