The male chipmunk is Samuel, but he likes to be called "Sam". The female, whom Sam met and married while working abroad in Honk Kong (prior to 1999 while it was still under British Rule) is named Elizabeth. Elizabeth, a native of Wales, had been engaged in teaching English and met Sam, a chipmunk telecommunications consultant, in a cafe.

Their baby is named Jessica chipmunk. Elizabeth had been hoping for a boy chipmunk, and had settled on the name "Toby", after her grandfather, but Sam got his wish when a little girl chipmunk was born.

Sam, Elizabeth, and Jessica now reside in East London, where sam works from home as an IT technician. Elizabeth has a successful interior decorating business, which allows her to spend most of her time at home as well. Sam is hoping for another baby chipmunk soon, but Elizabeth would like to wait until Jessica is school-aged, saying that mothering a baby chipmunk is hard enough; having two would be "exhausting".
