Symptoms of a sick puppy?
If any of the below mentioned symptoms last more than 8 to 12 hoursTAKE YOUR PUPPY TO THE VET!!!!
#1 Vomiting and/or Diarrhea (yellowish foamy vomit is BILE which means the stomach is empty and something is wrong! Diarrhea with ANY amount of BLOOD is a NO BRAINER..... get to the VET!
#2 Lethargic, acts timid, seems sad, refuses to eat or drink
#3 Dehydrated- when skin on back of neck is gently pulled up, then release and the skin should go right down! But if the skin seems stiff and not going back in place, THAT is a dehydrated animal.
#4 Always watch puppies or ANY young pet for sickness! They are very susceptible to diseases when they are not on the mothers milk. She supplies immunities while nursing.
THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVISE IS GETTING ALL OF THE NECESSARY VACCINES AND DE-WORMINGS DONE ON SCHEDULE!!!! PLEASE SEE A REPUTABLE VETERINARIAN FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER!!!!!
More helpful tips!
NEVER EVER TAKE A NEW PUPPY TO A HOUSE THAT EVER HAD A SICK/PARVO DOG!! BLEACHING THE PLACE IS NOT ENOUGH!!! LOOK IT UP ONLINE....PARVO CAN STAY ON YOUR PROPERTY AND GET ANY OTHER DOG SICK FOR A VERY VERY LONG TIME!!!
DO NOT change food! Fresh water and a premium dry food is really all they need Check with your Vet or Breeder for recommendations!!! NO TABLE SCRAPS
DO NOT take young animals out to Dog Parks, Pet Stores or anywhere else they may come in contact with other animals. UNLESS!!! ALL of their vaccines are DONE!! Which if the schedule is done on time, that would be 16 weeks old! That is when they should receive the final boosters and their 1 yr Rabies!!!
JUST BECAUSE THE BREEDER/PET STORE SAYS THEY GAVE THE PET IT'S SHOTS DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE SAFE!!! GO TO YOUR VET NO MATTER HOW HEALTHY THE PET SEEMS!!!!!
FYI-I have been a Veterinary Technician for almost 20 yrs working in BASIC & EMERGENCY MEDICINE!!! I am also a FORMER breeder of 12 yrs.
