It really depends on the dog you have and the dog you may want.

Whether the spaniel is easily intimidated by other larger dogs or not, may help you decide the size of you new dog.

Whether the new dog is a puppy or older dog matters to most dogs will welcome and teach a puppy of any breed but an adult dog being introduced into another adult dogs territory needs to be done with kindness and care. Whether the new adult dog has had problems with other dogs in the past or is comfortable in multiple dog houses really matters and also Pick a breed you as an owner can handle. Different breeds have different health needs. Such as American Pit Bull Terriers who need close to 3 hour of exercise a day. Or bull dog who chronically suffer nasal and breathing issues. Or smaller breeds like Bichon Frise which are hypo-allergenic but do require Grooming for their Hair they don't have fur so also no shedding.
