German shepherds are unique beyond any other dogs. They are amazingly intelligent. They have extremely readable expressions on their faces and sweet unique personalities. They are protective and loyal yet welcoming herding dogs. They are all different. Mine is gentle and tender, a mother who could never have pups, always worrying about the family and trying to do good. My grandma's shepherd, however, is a playful mischief maker who is unique and also unlike any other dog. He loves to bound around the yard and taunt and tease his owners, wagging his tail. Although he tries to protect his owner, whenever someone comes into the yard, he barks protectively, but in a shrill yelping bark. :) Such a funny dog.
An old German Shepherd is an older dog of the German Shepherd breed, while a German Shepherd refers to any dog of that breed, regardless of age. Older German Shepherds may have different physical and behavioral characteristics compared to younger ones.

German Shepherd Dog belongs to Herding group.
You should call animal control in your town and file a complaint. I would then sue the owner of the German Shepherd IF your dog was on a leash, the German Shepherd was NOT on a leash and IF your dog was not on the German Shepherd's property.I'm sorry for your loss, that is terrible :(
