They look a pinkish grey when newborn. They don't have much hair then and don't have a full coat until around 2 months old. An adult polar bear's skin is black. The newborns' skin turns blacker with age, but at first the skin looks more grey with a hint of pink. The hair and fur is not white as it appears and each hair is hollow (the trapped air helps with insulation). The fur of a polar bear is colorless and can appear from white to light tan depending on the lighting.
