Giraffes, like many wild animals, travel in groups. They forage for food, spending a great part of every day chomping and tearing off leaves from the highest branches of trees. Also like other wild animals, they must find water sources. Usually, the paths to food and water are well established as places their mothers, and their mothers, and so on have visited through hundreds of years.

Giraffes mate and mothers care for their babies. They must be most vigilant against predators which try to isolate the babies first.

Giraffes cannot lay down because their necks are so heavy they would be unable to stand without human assistance. So they sleep standing up. At any given time, some in the group may be sleeping while others are awake.

Like most wild animals living in high temperatures, giraffes battle insects. So you might likely see giraffes swatting their tails or stamping a foot because an insect is annoying them. They have long eyelashes which helps keep insects from their eyes.
