What do hedgehogs do in the day?

First, they will put their horns (facial quills) down against the ground and hiss, pop, click, or growl.

If that doesn't scare the offender off, they will roll into a ball and repeat the vocalizations (except for growling, that's more a warning and less aggressive).

Sometimes, they will chase/bite first, but it's rare.

RUN! Try letting them loose in a room with no holes in the wall and no means of escape. Give them a wheel (no wired ones, their little feet could slip through and break, try Silent Spinners, I like them!). You could give them small childrens toys thay they couldn't swallow or eat or chew. A hollow toilet paper tube (one big enough for them to fit in!) is goo, they like to hide. Hedgehogs don't like being out in the open. Some hedgies like to cuddle, but some like to run. Try bringing your hedgie out into your backyard, they LOVE IT! Make sure no hawks get them and they don't eat anything, though. Keep an eye on them 24-7 when they are running loose outside!
