What do you do if your bunny is dehydrated?

It is a sign of a lack of Vitamen C. You must feed a guinea pig that daily, because their bodies don't produce Vitamen C like we do, so feed them veggies with that in it.

Like, Peppers NOT HOT, carrots, broccoli, and pasley.

If your guinea pig is dehydrated, give it water. It may not be able to drink from a water bowl or a drip-water bottle if it has been dehydrated for awhile, so you may need to get an eye dropper of water and very gently squeeze it into the guinea-pig's mouth, a little at a time. Avoid giving it any dry foods, and instead give it nutritious vegetables and fruit, such as carrots and apples.

Your bunny should always have water to drink, but if she's dehydrated and isn't drinking water, then she needs medical care immediately! Dehydration leads to serious illness in rabbits, and it also stops a sick rabbit from getting better.

The best thing to do is bring your bunny immediately to a vet for subcutaneous fluid injections.

If you can't get to the vet right away, then syringe-feed your rabbit water with added electrolytes. The daily portion should be 150mL per 2lb of rabbit. Give a little bit at a time throughout the day.

An electrolyte formula is an important part of a rabbit first aid kit. Ideally, ask your vet ahead of time if you can buy a powdered formula from them. If that doesn't work, you can use an unflavoured paediatric liquid formula from the drug store (like Pedialyte). Don't use one of the flavoured kinds, because it's bad for the rabbit. Water it down first. Daily portion size for the electrolyte formula is about 70mL per 2lb of rabbit (and this does count toward the 150mL total).

Be EXTREMELY careful syringe-feeding liquid to a rabbit.Make sure you are holding the rabbit securely so he can't squirm. Aim the water into the cheek, or under the tongue: definitely don't aim it at the throat, back of the mouth, or roof of the mouth: the rabbit might inhale the water and drown. Use a very small syringe (with no needle in it, of course), and squirt only tiny bits at a time, and let the rabbit swallow before the next squirt. Yes, this does take a long time and it's exhausting, but that's the cost of having a rabbit: sometimes they get sick, and you need to nurse them!

You can try to tempt the guinea pig to drink by sweeting the water (VERY slightly, less than 1/8 teaspoon in a pint of water) or by adding a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade to the water (VERY slightly, about 1 tablespoon of sports drink in a pint of water). If your guinea pig doesn't start drinking within about 12 hours, you need to take him/her to the vet. Your veterinarian can examine your guinea pig to see why he/she isn't drinking enough water and can give fluids to rehydrate him/her.
