Mainly grass, and low lying vegetation. There is a very strong argument supporting that fact that there is no such animal as a 'white rhino'. The word 'white' is a result of a mstranslation from Dutch into Afrikaans into English. The word 'white' in English is a mistranslation and mispronunciation of the Dutch word 'wijde' meaning 'wide' refering to the width of the animals mouth. However the common name for this animal should be 'square lipped rhino'. The name white may also come from the waters in which the rhino lived, or the light coloured mud in which the Rhino wallowed making it look white, when if fact is was notwhite at all
