Cheetahs are "carnivores"-- they prefer to eat meat. Members of the cat family, their first choice would be to kill smaller animals like warthogs or Gazelles. But like cats, when they cannot find animals to eat, they will hunt and eat birds. Since cheetahs tend to live in warm places where they can hunt, it is doubtful that winter would affect them; in hot climates, there are even animals to eat during the winter season. About the only time a cheetah might have problems finding food is during a severe drought.
