It's called wheeking but I can't explain what it actually sounds like so type in on youtube guinea pig wheeking and something will surely come up :).
If you mean good pets, I would say yes! They make very good pets! They will sit in your lap or on your chest, and you can stroke them and they will wheek or purr. Wheeking is like squeaking.
Depends on the type of the "scream". Guinea pigs use sounds as a primary means of communication.Common type of guinea pig sound is called wheeking(called also squealing, or whistling): it means anticipationand excitement, particularly about being fed, or in response to the presence of its owner. Please check the guinea pig sounds page of the Guinea Pig Manual (in provided link) where you can identify the type of sound you are referring to.
Guinea pigs may make a variety of vocalizations, including yapping, as a way to communicate with each other or with their owners. Yapping or wheeking can be a sign of excitement, hunger, or a desire for attention or interaction. It is a normal behavior for guinea pigs and is part of their way of expressing themselves.
It depends. Guinea pigs make all different kinds of noises depending if they are happy or scared. Wheeking: means feed me. they either know food is coming or they're hungry. Rumbling: when a male is trying to romance a female. Shrieking: sounds like a wheek, only more high pitched. it means they are afraid or in pain. Purring: means pleasure. Teeth Chattering: upset or angry. Mutter/Chut: meaning relaxed, happy, and content Whining: Just like it sounds, complaining Chirping: no one really knows why they do this or what it means.
Guinea pigs make a variety of sounds to communicate, including squeaking, purring, chattering, and wheeking. Squeaking is a common sound used for expressing excitement or seeking attention, while wheeking is a high-pitched sound made when they are hungry or anticipating food. Purring usually indicates contentment, and chattering can be a sign of annoyance or warning.
Guinea pigs can form strong bonds with their owners and show affection through behaviors like purring, wheeking, and seeking out interaction. They often respond positively to consistent care and attention from their owners.
I've kept and bred gerbils for nearly 40 years. They do not purr. The previous answer stated they have vibrations. Gerbils are prone to seizures and tremors although this genetic anomaly has mostly been bred out. It's helpful to think of yourself as a giant amusement park ride to a gerbil. When you go on one it upsets your sense of balance and you get really nervous and nauseous. Gerbils are small and sometimes being carried or handled has the same startling effect.
The noises they make are like talking. Some are warning signals, other sounds are contentment or they are irritated. They squeek mainly, but it's the high/low pitch that tells you if they are content or frightened.
Baby guinea pigs can be weaned as young as two weeks, but it is suggested to wean them at about three to three and a half weeks. Three weeks is suggested because the babies, usually, can mate and reproduce at three weeks.
