Chesapeake bay retrievers originated because of a shipwreck. Two Labrador retrievers were on the ship and they bred with the local retrievers on the place where they wrecked.
CORRECTION: Chessies are NOT related to of have any part of Labrador in them! The two dogs on the ship that were saved were Newfoundlands or St John's Water Dogs. Later to strengthen the breed they were mixed with hounds and spaniels. Not labradors...ever.
A Labrador is a type of retriever (it's full name being Labrador Retriever). The term 'retriever' is usually used to describe a dog breed that was originally used to describe a breed used for retrieving water fowl. Other breeds of dog with 'retriever' in its name are Golden Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Curl-Coated Retriever, Flat-Coated Retriever and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
The reason why the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is called the Chesapeake bay retriever is because they used to hunt waterfowl ( especially ducks) in the Chesapeake Bay. The retriever part, is part of the name because when they hunted they would swim over to the dead duck and bring it the person who killed it. That's called retrieving.
With the I in the proper place, the spelling is retriever(used for certain dog breeds).
Labrador Retrievers were created when Newfoundland's were bred with water dogs. Eventually, that breed was mated with retrievers, creating the Labrador Retrievers that are seen today.
A Labrador Retriever is a defined breed that consists of deliberate cross-breeding within itself. As this breed has been around for over 100 years, it is difficult to explain what breeds were used to originally develop the Labrador Retriever, although several spaniel and retriever dog breeds were involved.
The cat breeds used to create a Burmese cat breed are the Siamese and Si-Sawa.
It's possible but I really don't think so since there are stronger breeds such as the German Shepard, Golden retriever and other breeds. Poodles are water retrievers used for hunting in the water.
The most common guide and police dog breeds are the German Shepard and Labrador retriever.
Mini Lops, Netherland Dwarfs, Polish were SOME of the breeds used to miniaturize to a holland lop.
the breeds that created the chihuahua are unknown as they are probably exctinct since ancient times
In the winter of 1807, an English ship with two Newfoundlands on board wrecked off the coast of Maryland. Everyone was saved, and the two dogs were given to a family of dog lovers. They were later mated with local retrievers including English Otter Hounds, Flat-Coated Retrievers and Curly-Coated Retrievers. Careful breeding over the years has created an outstanding retriever with incredible enthusiasm and endurance. The dogs were used to hunt waterfowl in rough and icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever has been known to retrieve hundreds of birds in a single day in frigid waters. This lively, enthusiastic hunter will come out of a river or marsh with only a few drops of water remaining on its oily coat, and these are quickly eliminated with a shake. Water rolls off the dog like a duck. Some of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever's talents include: tracking, hunting, retrieving, guarding, watchdog, schutzhund, field spots and competitive obedience. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever was recognized by the AKC in 1878.
The Basenji didn't have any dogs bred to make it.
