All parts of the poppy plant may be mildly to moderately toxic to dogs depending on the amount the dog consumes relative to the dog's size and weight. Symptoms of poppy toxicity in dogs include a lack of appetite, lethargy, signs of hallucinations, confusion, and shrunken pupils. Highly toxic levels may cause a dog to slip into a coma. Any dog which is suspected to have ingested a toxic substance should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
