This is a very basic answer, but food chains vary based on ecosystems. Deers are herbivores meaning they eat plants thus 1st level consumers.The same as small animals like rabbits etc. If you are in a ecosystem where there are bigger carnivores (2nd level consumers), such as a tiger or lion etc. In North America, Bobcats are the only thing that may consistantly eat deer. Black bears may be the least carnivorous of the "carnivores" of North America. So Deer are just primary comsumers with Normally not much that will eat them
