I have a shih tzu (pronounced shee zoo), and he is pretty much a puppy, but one that barks, not yips. I get him the little cartons of food, like cesar, which you can get in food lion or even Walmart, I believe. I would stay away from the grocery store brands of food. Stay away from foods with corn, by-products, wheat, soy, gluten, and dyes. Go with holistic foods like Canidae, Natural Balance, Wellness, Solid Gold, Fromm, Eagle Pack, or Innova. Make sure it says for puppies or All Life Stages if it says ALS then that means based on the weight of the dog you feed twice as much as you would feed an adult dog that is the same weight. If you research Holistic or Natural foods you will get a whole list of different foods that are good for your puppy. Also dont just feed wet food because if you only feed the wet food as a puppy they will never learn to eat dry food and buying wet food is more expensive then buying dry food. Hope that helps!
Wallmart
You should stop feeding your dog puppy food when it reaches about 1 year. A typical puppy will reach adult size when its about 8-12 months.
Twice a day but only small amounts. Buy dry puppy food and feed according to the instructions on the packet.
If its a girl, a puppy!
it should tell you on the back of the food package. usually 3months
Call around and see who sells a puppy food made with real meat(meat should be listed first).Don`t buy a puppy food that has corn wheat soy or meat by-products,these are all fillers and the puppy will want to eat more. The better the food the less the puppy will want to eat. Edit- We have a king charles/ bision frese and he has bakers complete puppy food mixed with chicken. And it is fine. I think it doesn't matter, just the quantly if it's a big dog.
Either puppy wet food or Puppy dry food it doesn't matter but as long as it say puppy food.
At that age you can start him on adult dog food.
The best puppy food is one that has meat listed first, do not buy puppy food that has fillers like corn, wheat, soy or meat by-products.
1 year
All puppies should receive puppy food, and be fed three times daily, for AT LEAST the first year of life. Check with your Vet for his/her recommendation of puppy food for small breeds. I fed my westie, Mop, puppy food till she was one and a half. :D
You should feed your 6 month puppy a good, high quality puppy food until it is one year of age. I would suggest Purina Puppy Chow or Science Diet Puppy food.
