What if a baby bunny is abandoned?

Possibly, but try not to touch it a lot if it is so young that it is still pink. (It has to do with oils on your skin) I have saved newborns from their mother before, but not orphaned bunnies.

Many people find wild baby rabbits and think they have been abandoned when, in fact, they have not been. Never move the babies until you are sure they have been abandoned, because if they haven't been, their chances of survival are far higher with their mother than with any human, no matter how skilled, knowledgeable, or compassionate that human is.

It is known for a mother rabbit to be killed on the road, leaving her litter of newborns abandoned. One can take care of the kittens (baby rabbits) -- it is possible to save them -- but it is not easy. At first, they only drink milk, so a special formula is needed. Once they have been weaned off milk they will graze on grass and vegetables.

First answer: You should just leave it be. It will soon grow up and can take care of itself. Its instincts know how to find food. So i say just leave it be.

Another answer: Unweaned babies do not have instincts to help them find food or shelter: that's what the mother is for. That's like saying human babies will soon grow up and take care of themselves. If an unweaned baby rabbit is abandoned, it will die unless you do something.

However, even if you try to help, the baby will still probably die. If you're not experienced hand-raising rabbits, you probably should just leave the rabbit alone because you'll only prolong and intensify it's suffering. Sometimes sad things happen in nature: that's just how it is.

Often people think they've found abandoned baby rabbits, when in fact the rabbits aren't abandoned at all. Mother rabbits don't sit on their babies all the time like birds. Generally, mother rabbits tuck the babies away and only visit them twice a day. If the babies are warm and their bellies are round, then they haven't been abandoned. But if the babies are cold and their bellies are shrunken and their skin is wrinkled, they probably have been abandoned.
