The only one I know of is when they get a skin condition...but i don't know it's name. It causes scratching and redness. If the dog scratches enough, the skin will bleed and scab. My jack russell got this when he was one year old and as he got older, it became better but it still bothers him now and he's almost 6 years old. The pollen from the grass in the summer seems to make it worse for him and so on hot summer days we give him the odd cool shower with a dog shampoo that calms his skin. It seems to effect his elbows, paws, chin and stomach skin. Basically, on the areas with less hair. I have met other people with jack russells that have the same problem. Also, other different breeds of terriers have the same problem and almost scratch themselves bald. So it's a very common illness. Sorry for blabbing on!
