After about 60 days of gestation, the litter (average size; six) is birthed. They are born blind, and after about 10 days the eyes open.

Three to four weeks after birth, they emerge from the den, and are fully weaned by about another week.

Male pups go out on their own at about the age of 6-9 months, while the females remain with their parents to form the pack.

Sexual maturity is attained by the time they reach 12 months of age.

They have been known to live as long as 10 years in the wild, and 18 years while in captivity.
