A Grand Champion, when not used in terms of dog fighting, is a pure bred American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) who has gained enough points in dog shows(conformation) to obtain their Championship, and then their Grand Championship. The points/procedure required depend on the kennel club the dog is registered with. The most reputable APBT registry is the United Kennel Club, or UKC, followed by the American Dog Breeders Association, or ADBA. There are other registries which do not sanction shows or competitions, and these registries are often not worth the money you put in to register the dogs.
UKC CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements for UKC Champion Title• A minimum of 100 championship points
• Points must be earned under at least three different UKC licensed Judges,
• Win three Best Male/Female (or higher) classes at three different shows with competition under three different UKC licensed Judges.
UKC GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Requirements for UKC Grand Champion Title• Win five Champion classes with competition at five different shows
• Wins must be earned under at least three different UKC licensed Judges.
For ADBA Conformation showing:
"Once a dog has achieved 100 points in either the conformation or weight pull, it is given a "Champion" or "Ace" title. A certificate is mailed to the registered owner reflecting the title dog has achieved. For each additional 100 points earned (i.e. 200, 300, 400, 500, etc.) another title is given. Example: Grand Champion, Grand Champion I, Grand Champion II, etc. or... Ace of Ace, Ace of Ace I, Ace of Ace II, etc. When your dog has earned 200 points, a plaque will be presented to recognize your dog's achievement. G/C I or A/A I and higher are also presented with a plate that is to be hung from the Grand Champion plaque, showing the additional titles achieved."
Any dog that has won 3 or more "matches" is considered a Grand Champion.
Actually this is not entirely correct. The true meaning of a Grand Champion Pitbull is a dog that's blood consist of a Champion fighting pitbull and a champion show pitbull. Now I do not agree with fighting dogs but have been around pitbulls and breeders for a long time and I'm sorry to say but that is what a Grand Champion is. Wining 3 or more matches in show just makes the dog a Champion and wining 3 or more fight shows (which are illegal in the United States by the way) makes the dog a Champion, but if you breed both of these dogs the offspring will become Grand Champion.
NOOOO don't read the top comments!!! A champion is a dog who has won 3 or more matches, a grand champion is dog who has one 5 or more matches, if they win 10 matches they are considered a 2 time grand champion and 15 matches is 3 time grand champion. This is for fighting dogs only.

The key difference between an American Pit Bull and a Pit Bull is that the term "American Pit Bull" specifically refers to the American Pit Bull Terrier breed, which is recognized by the United Kennel Club. On the other hand, the term "Pit Bull" is a more general term that can refer to several breeds, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
