Palomino Horse: History

This horse cannot yet be regarded as an established breed, since it does not present uniform characteristics.

The only feature all Palominos have in common is their coat but strangely enough it is not possible to transmit this color reliably.

The horse is highly regarded in the United States, and in Great Britain there is a pony version.

The only difference between a palomino horse and an identical horse of the same breed is the color.
Palomino is a horse that is homozygous recessive at the extension locus (making the horse red/chestnut colored) with the addition of a single dilution allele for Creme which dilutes the body of the horse to gold and (usually) the mane and tail to white.
