What is special about whales?

They are the largest living animals on earth. They are spectacular to watch. They can splash a large volume of water with their tails or by jumping out of the water and crashing back down on to the surface. They travel in family groups called pods. They exhale water and breath in air through a blow hole on the top of their head. They communicate through sounds that resemble songs. They can dive great distances by holding their breath.

They are special and unique in many ways. Examples include; Humpbacks emit high frequency "clicks" reaching 30,000 Hz, the flukes (tails) have a distinct pattern on the underside, much like human fingerprints, and they don't eat whilst in breeding grounds.
