What is the best kind of riding horses?

Any breed can be a good trail riding horse. An athletic and calm horse with good endurance can be an excellent trail horse.

The most popular competive trail riding breeds are Arabian, Quarter Horse, Paint, Appaloosa and Morgans. Off the track race horses like Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds can be retrained to make nice trail horses. Mustangs, ponies and grades can also be good trail horses.

Some people prefer the gaited breeds for their smooth and comfortable gaits: Tennessee Walker, American Saddlebred, Peruvian Paso, Paso Fino, Tiger Horse and others.

Some horses are better suited to the job of trail horse than other based on temperment and fit with the rider. Ideally a trail horse should be suited to the rider, so really any breed can do the job if the individual horse is suited for it.

Any breed or crossbreed of horse can be a good family horse.What matters most is the horses temperament and personality. A family horse should be calm and careful with kids but still playful enough for adults. Height is also something to consider, Taller horses do not stay as sound as shorter horses over the years and are more likely to have joint problems, so something under 16 hands is usually going to last longer.

well, it depends on what type of riding you would like. if you want to do western pleasure, it might be adviseable to go for something like a quarter horse, unless you want a gaited breed.

if you want to do jumping, i'd go for the fast, strong horses like a honnavarian or a thoroughbred (unless you're not that good, in wich case it might not be smart to have a strong horse.)

if you want an English pleasure horse than it might be adviseable to have a standardbred, or any horse that will bring their knees up high but be calm in big crouds, too.

also, pretty much any horse can be rideable. just not joung green ones. that just might be impossible. lol

it really depends on your personality or what type of riding u look into.

if you are new to horses a older slower horse would be best. or maybe a kind quarter horse

if you are experienced and like... jumping for example a warmblood or thoroughbred is good

if you like hunter and are experienced with 'hot' horses and respect them, not abuse horses, an Arabian is a great fit

it really depends on the situation

and if you like going slow and easy and a reliable ride a draft like a Belgium/cross would be a suggestion. Something drafty.

and for kids a well-trained pony would be good,

i personally love quarter horses for the athleticism and calm attitude all mixed into one but if you have horse people friends who respect horses I would suggest asking of their opinion

but all circumstances are different
