The adoption fee at a shelter is generally far less expensive than the cost of a purebred dog from a breeder. Also, smaller dogs eat less, therefore costing less in food bills over the life of the dog. But be careful not to get a dog TOO small, as "teacup" type dogs can have significant health problems due to their size, thus costing you more in vet bills.
