Every horse has a different demeanor. Some horses are quiet while others are more outgoing and willing. Much of a horses demeanor has to do with how it was raise. Horses that were pushed into training early and mis-treated and more likely to be either extremely shy or they may turn aggressive. Horses that have been treated well all their lives are more likely to be willing to do what is asked of them and to be more predictable around people.

That being said, neither one of those statements are always true. There are horses who have been treated well all their lives, yet they still occasionally through a kick or a bite at somebody (just having an off day).

That is why it is important to always be aware of your surroundings when you are around horses (especially, if you don't know the horse). Horses, while some may "appear" to be friendly can sometimes bite you.

Just like in people, every horse has a different demeanor and you have to take the time to get to know the horse and it's history.
