The first food for a baby mammal is milk. This is what defines a mammal. Its name is derived from mammary glands. For many placental mammals, like cows, these are called udders. For humans they are called breasts. For marsupials they are more often referred to as simply teats because these animals give a constant supply of milk rather than store it for feeding time.
