Whether tigers become extinct in the wild depends on whether the poaching of tigers can be effectively stopped. If it can, they have a chance, if we preserve enough habitat for them, and it may even be necessary to restore some habitat for them. If we don't do these things, they will probably go extinct in the wild soon. Thankfully, there are many in captivity, so even in that worst case scenario, there would be some tigers that could be returned to the wild once conditions were right.
